Kenyans expressed anger at Education CS Ezekiel Machogu for postponing school opening at the last minute.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday, April 29, noted that school opening dates had been postponed to May 6, due to the ongoing floods.

The CS noted that the ministry had made the decision after receiving reports that most schools in the country had been adversely affected by the heavy downpour.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has been heavily criticised for announcing the postponement of school opening in the 11th hour, throwing learners, parents and guardians into confusion.

Many said the decision had inconvenienced many children already on the way to school.

Some children were already en route to school when Education CS Ezekiel Machogu sent a statement at 1am. Kenyans are not happy with the decision.

Machogu issued a statement at around 1 am on Monday, saying that the government has pushed school opening dates for a week due to the ongoing heavy rains across the country.

The CS noted that the ministry had made the decision after receiving reports that most schools in the country had been adversely affected by the heavy downpour.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Education on Sunday, April 28, night, CS Ezekiel Machogu said the decision was arrived at after reports from field officers indicated many schools had been affected by floods.

Speaking, Machogu noted that he had to consult from a team that was tasked to probe the flooding situation across the country.

Others questioned why the government waited until 1 a.m. before making such an important decision.
